Rapid and continuous agentless endpoint discovery

08 August, 2016
Jan Hof of ForeScout summarises the results of an independent assessment of the capabilities of CounterACT

Jan Hof, International Marketing Director, ForeScout TechnologiesNetwork security doesn't have to be complicated! It may seem a daunting task to secure a network of thousands of endpoints which could be managed or unmanaged, agentless or with software installed. This is why ForeScout Technologies has designed its Network Access Controller, CounterACT, with simplicity and effectiveness in mind.

The idea is to identify and classify all endpoints on the network continuously so the network administrator always has insight into what's connected and what the status is of any endpoint attached to the network.

To assess the effectiveness of CounterACT in doing this, Miercom carried out a test of the device and came up with some interesting findings, the highlights of which are that it took CounterACT less than 5 seconds to discover and classify 500 devices without impacting network performance and provided 100% visibility of all endpoints.

These are important elements in ensuring continuous and comprehensive visibility and protection.

Commenting on these results, Rob Greer, CMO & SVP Products at ForeScout told us: “In order to minimise the security attack surface, organisations need to discover and classify managed and unmanaged devices the moment they connect to their network. What’s more, they must have the ability to automatically apply appropriate security controls to enforce their security policy. Having an objective test authority such as Miercom validate the agentless discovery and classification capabilities of our solution — being able to see and control devices on a continuous basis — is a great proof point for our customers.”
