VoiceAttend offers new option to victims of bullying

VoiceAttend : 31 August, 2007  (New Product)
VoiceAttend tackles bullying and truancy with voice based parental notification system
As the new school year begins, victims wish it was still summer. A school communication product offers an easy way for pupils to report their experiences.

VoiceAttend, a unique, affordable and easy to use automatic parent alert system for schools, was officially launched in May and specialises in helping education establishments combat the two high profile problems of bullying and truancy. As well as automatically informing parents when pupils are absent from school without authorisation, VoiceAttend also provides a dedicated phone line through which pupils can anonymously report incidents of bullying, safe in the knowledge that they cannot be traced. The pupil calls a number to report an incident (which they can do from any phone, including a public phone) and the system then distorts their voice, making it unrecognisable.

Adrian Auld, CEO Voice Services, says: "Bullying is a very real problem in our schools today, and the first step to dealing with it is for individual schools to understand that it is happening. A House of Commons commissioned report (printed in March 2007), recommended that Local Authorities along with schools develop systems for the reporting of bullying in order to tackle this problem effectively, but all too often victims are scared to be identified in case it exacerbates the problem. With the VoiceAttend product, victims of bullying can leave an anonymous message at any time, 24/7, without peer pressure. The product is easy to demonstrate, for instance in an assembly. Not only does it encourage children who are being bullied but also children who have witnessed something to come forward and tell someone".

VoiceAttend, which is quick to install and easy to manage, can also help with the growing problem of truancy in schools, plus it has a function where messages can be sent to groups of parents informing them about school closures, detentions or school bus delays with the touch of a button.

VoiceAttend has been trialled in London schools throughout the past year, and it was installed in schools in London, Bristol, Leicester and Basingstoke in the summer holidays, ready for this term.
