Video analytics for detecting illegal train riding.

Duos Technologies : 05 March, 2008  (Application Story)
Passing trains to be scanned by video analytics system from Duos Technologies for the presence of illegal train riders, an essential tool in US border regions.
A major Class I railway has awarded Duos Technologies a contract for the installation of the company's proprietary Train Rider Detection System (TRiDS), which uses artificial Intelligence to automatically inspect passing trains for the presence of unauthorised riders or illegal cargo. The contract includes expansion of Duos' initial deployment which was installed under a pilot program at an undisclosed location along the Southwestern border, and the deployment of an additional unit at a location in California.

TRiDS performs automated Digital Video searches of freight trains passing through a portal at speeds of up to 70mph. Duos' Praesidium software interprets the video scenes using proprietary algorithms, and alerts train security personnel to the presence of irregularities. The system includes a Linear Panorama Generator that enables review of the entire train, automatically marking the positions of detections requiring further inspection. The system minimizes the need for train stops by US Border Patrol personnel who are currently relying on random train inspection methods which cause severe delays and interruption to traffic flow.

The patent-pending TRiDS combines multiple Duos proprietary technologies and represents a breakthrough in automated identification and video analytics, providing a high degree of accuracy and an optimal solution for intrusion detection.

"TRiDS puts an effective tool in the hands of railroad police to help rail carriers deal with the growing concern of unauthorized riders using rail assets for their passage deep into the continental US," said Gianni Arcaini, CEO of Duos. "We are flattered that our customers continue challenging us to develop technologies that combine fortified security with operational upgrades."
