UK construction company to use biometric workforce management

Human Recognition Systems : 29 April, 2014  (Application Story)
Human Recognition Systems' MSite biometric workforce management system will be used by building contractor Shepher Construction across its operations
UK construction company to use biometric workforce management

Shepherd Construction, a nationally-operating public and private sector contractor, has signed a framework agreement with Identity Assured Management solutions provider Human Recognition Systems (HRS) to implement a more robust site management system across all future UK sites.

HRS’ MSite Corporate solution is a cloud-based workforce information management system that uniquely provides a complete view of workforce activity across all of Shepherd Construction’s sites. Using biometric technology to identify every worker, MSite’s functionality encompasses site access security, health and safety reporting and compliance, biometric time and attendance and workforce management by collecting and reporting on different streams of operational information. The robust and secure platform will enable Shepherd Construction to accurately identify its workforce and manage access rights and site activities in accordance with company policies and procedures.

“As a leading national contractor, the adoption of the HRS MSite system complements our longstanding, respected and conscientious approach and commitment to the health and safety of every individual on our sites,” states Darren Shattock, SHE Director at Shepherd Construction.

“Our primary objective was to enhance our operations and ensure that we could more efficiently control all movements on and off site and accurately record the information in such a way that would allow us to proactively monitor and review the data captured to enhance our overall SHE performance.  HRS MSite had a number of key differentiators that made it the preferred choice for Shepherd Construction.”

HRS’ solution allows Shepherd Construction to better manage site safety through the implementation of dual zone sites. This best practice approach features a security cabin that provides access to a non-PPE welfare safe zone and combines with the MSite Pod to control access to the main construction site. Pre-enrolment assists an efficient induction process for site teams, whilst HRS’ partnership with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) also ensures that only personnel with the correct authority and competencies can gain access to the company’s construction sites.

HRS has garnered significant experience to date from work on large construction sites including London Bridge and Victoria Station and from existing framework agreements with Carillion and Lend Lease. The company’s MSite Corporate offering is supported by enhancements made to MSite 5.0, taking it from a site access solution to a true site management system.  Offering more functionality than ever, MSite 5.0 was chosen by Shepherd following a successful proof of concept at a major development in Blackpool.

“We are pleased to have worked in partnership with Shepherd Construction to prove the solution works for them and look forward to working on new developments and opportunities to support their growth aspirations,” states Simon Meyer, Operations Director at Human Recognition Systems.

“Firms are moving towards solutions that offer true site management rather than simply access control as the construction industry’s demands continue to evolve,” adds Simon Meyer. “Human Recognition Systems’ MSite Corporate solution has been specifically designed to deliver this by allowing managers to access important information automatically and in real-time to help better manage sites without the overhead or manual input.”
