Training event to offer 15 information security courses

SANS Institute : 23 October, 2012  (New Product)
Annual London IT security training event to take place in Covent Garden at the end of October offering courses in 15 IT security subjects
Training event to offer 15 information security courses

SANS London 2012, Europe’s largest InfoSec training event, has announced its final schedule offering 15 courses covering intrusion detection, penetration testing, auditing, management and compliance as well as new additions around security within virtualised and cloud environments.  SANS London is also moving to a new home at the Grand Connaught Rooms in vibrant Covent Garden for the annual event which runs from the 26th of November to the 3rd of December.

Last year, 430 students attended SANS London and the early registrations for 2012 suggest a similar level of attendance. “Cloud computing, virtualisation and shared services has created new security challenges for organisations and information security professionals are responding by learning new skills and techniques,” explains Gareth Dance, GSEC Conference Director, EMEA.

As organisations struggle to deliver practical response to security breaches, Dance points to popular courses such as SEC566: Implementing and Auditing the Twenty Critical Security Controls (In-Depth) as a practical step towards better protecting information as part of the controls known as the Consensus Audit Guidelines (CAG).

“The security discussion is also taking place from departmental level all the way up to the board room which has made fundamental security knowledge critical to staff from non-IT areas such as legal, finance and senior management.” SANS London 2012 will host the SEC401: Security Essentials Bootcamp Style to help teach individuals the essential skills and techniques needed to protect and secure an organisation's critical information assets and business systems.

The 15 training courses are joined by the NetWars tournament where participants compete in a mock environment to test their defensive, offensive, analysis, and cyber skills, fighting off intruders while trying to take over other target systems and networks.

“The new location and depth of courses promises that SANS London 2012 will attract Europe’s best InfoSec professionals to an environment where they can learn, share and interact with peers and industry experts – definitely an opportunity not to be missed!” Dance adds. SANS will be offering discounts of up to €400 on many courses for students that register before 10th of October.
