Threat control for Gigabit networks.

Demanding performance requirements of Gigabit and IPv6 networks met by latest network threat protection product from Sourcefire, the 3D9800 Sensor.
Open source innovator and SNORT creator, Sourcefire has announced the forthcoming release of the Sourcefire 3D9800 Sensor, which will enable users to protect their highest-performing network segments with a single appliance that integrates the company's leading Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Network Behaviour Analysis (NBA), Network Access Control (NAC) and Vulnerability Assessment (VA) solutions. The 3D9800 Sensor is designed to meet the performance demands of 10 gigabit per second (Gbps) Ethernet networks and will provide support for the latest IPv6 deployments.

"A major issue for our customers today is the expense of upgrading their network infrastructure. Increasing the speed of the backbone often requires upgrades to many monitoring and management components. Our 3D9800 Sensor removes the concern of whether our customers will still be protected when they make this change", comments Dominic Storey, EMEA Technical Director at Sourcefire.

For large environments with significant amounts of network traffic, the 3D9800 Sensor will enable users to protect their high-throughput core networks from one central location, reducing the effort and complexity of threat management. With 12 cores dedicated to application processing, the 3D9800 Sensor will deliver robust traffic handling capabilities to enterprise threat management (ETM) applications. With up to two Network Interface Modules (NIMs), the 3D9800 Sensor will offer high port density, enabling users to leverage up to 24 ports depending on their network requirements. Both 10Gbps and 1Gbps network connectivity options will be available, ensuring that users can customize the sensor to their specific network speeds. The 3D9800 Sensor will also provide users with a highly redundant, fault-tolerant architecture to support a company's most critical network segments.

Built on a common foundation of network and user intelligence, the Sourcefire 3Dâ„¢ System unifies four key ETM solutions - IPS, NBA, NAC and VA - to defend enterprise networks at all stages of the attack continuum - Before, During and After the attack. Sourcefire is the first network security vendor to integrate all four ETM components under the same management console, affording customers with both efficient and effective means for defending complex networks against today's most costly threats.

With detailed IPv6 packet analysis, Sourcefire 3D Sensors will provide users the ability to prevent attacks in both native and tunneled IPv6 traffic. They also will enable users to stop evasions in IPv6 traffic and to protect IPv6-enabled systems residing on IPv4 networks. Sourcefire will enable organisations to protect their most critical assets within these next-generation networking environments.

The 3D9800 is expected to be available during the second half of 2007.
