Taiwan airports to receive explosive detection systems

L-3 Communications : 17 September, 2007  (Application Story)
L-3 Communications have won an order for Examiner 3DX explosive detection systems from Taiwan's airports.
L-3 Communications will supply both of Taiwan's international airports with eXaminer 3DX explosives detection systems (EDS) for their baggage screening operations. L-3 will install and maintain ten eXaminer systems in the Taipei Taoyuan International and Kaohsiung International Airports. The units are scheduled to be installed in the first quarter of 2008.

With exceptional automated processing, threat recognition and throughput rates, L-3's eXaminer 3DX leads the industry in explosives detection, performance and reliability. "L-3's computed tomography (CT) technology was chosen in a head-to-head technical challenge with other equipment manufacturers. Not only did eXaminer's detection capability exceed the standard set by the Taiwanese authority, but its throughput outperformed competing systems," stated Thomas Ripp, President of L-3 Security and Detection Systems. "The addition of CT technology will greatly enhance security screening at Taoyuan and Kaoshiung, and enable them to compete more effectively in the region," he added. "We are exceptionally pleased to assist the Aviation Police Office in meeting its security and operational goals for these airports."

From major international hubs to regional passenger terminals, airports around the globe rely on eXaminer 3DX EDS to enhance security and meet increasingly demanding throughput, infrastructure, and cost requirements. In addition to being the most advanced TSA-certified explosives detection system of its kind, the eXaminer's landmark technology has been certified by some of the world's most security-minded countries.

Many significant air hubs in Asia employ L-3 technology for baggage screening, including Japan's Kansai International and Tokyo-Narita International airports, Singapore's Changi Airport, China's Beijing Capital International Airport and Korea's Incheon Airport.

L-3's Homeland Security Group's Security and Detections Systems division incorporates L-3 CyTerra and L-3 SafeView, which provide an array of pioneering security technologies for a variety of applications. With a broad range of systems and technology, and an installed base of more than 18,000 systems worldwide, L-3 Security and Detection Systems offers screening technologies for numerous security applications that include: (1) aviation systems for hold baggage explosives detection, oversized baggage, and checkpoint screening; (2) cargo and air freight screening; (3) port and border inspection; and (4) facility protection. L-3 Security and Detection Systems' customer base includes major airlines, airports, numerous government agencies around the world (including the US Department of Homeland Security, US Federal Protective Service, US Customs and Border Protection, US Department of State, and US Department of Agriculture), and international authorities throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
