Sourcefire assists PCI standards council.

Sourcefire : 02 October, 2007  (Company News)
Sourcefire accepted into Payment Card Industry to help in the development of new PCI security standards.
Open source innovator and Snort creator, Sourcefire has announced it has been accepted as a participating organisation in the PCI Security Standards Council (SSC), an independent industry standards body providing management of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) on a global basis. As a participating organisation, Sourcefire will have the opportunity to work with the council to further the development of PCI Standards.

"The PCI Security Standards Council is committed to helping everyone involved in the payment chain protect consumer payment data," said Bob Russo, General Manager of the Council. By participating in the Council, Sourcefire demonstrates they are playing an active part in this important end goal."

The Sourcefire 3D System enables users to comply with PCI requirements, including monitoring and enforcing compliance with configuration policies, identifying and remediation vulnerabilities, monitoring and analysing events, and incident response and reporting. Built on a common foundation of network and user intelligence, the Sourcefire 3D System unifies four key Enterprise Threat Management (ETM) solutions - IPS, NBA, NAC and VA - to defend enterprise networks at all stages of the attack continuum - Before, during and after the attack. Improving security and compliance, Sourcefire is the first network security vendor to integrate all four ETM components under the same management console, affording customers with both efficient and effective means for defending complex networks against today's most costly threats.

"The Sourcefire 3D System protects merchants, banks, processors, and point of sale vendors from the latest security threats, while also ensuring that they can monitor and enforce PCI mandated security policies," said Mike Gateman, Product Manager for Compliance Solutions at Sourcefire. "Leading security technology is only one step in ensuring the safety of critical information, such as credit card data. Businesses need to be educated and must create and adhere to policies that mitigate some of the most critical risk factors. However, to be compliant these policies must be realised in day-to-day operations. With White Lists, the 3D System detects and responds to policy violations in real-time for continuous compliance. Sourcefire looks forward to working with the PCI Security Standards Council to help create standards, educate the market and share best practices."
