Security partnerships improve threat response capabilities

ForeScout Technologies : 27 April, 2015  (Company News)
Parnership expansions based on ForeScout ControlFabric bolster mitigation capabilities for advanced threats and breaches.
Security partnerships improve threat response capabilities

Building on its existing network of Advanced Threat Detection (ATD) partnerships, ForeScout Technologies has now announced further integrations to enable organisations to contain Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) both quickly and automatically.

Using the ControlFabric architecture, customers of ForeScout can integrate the CounterACT Network Access Control product to help them gain protection against zero-day malware and targeted APTs through automating threat mitigation and reducing response times.

Behavioural detection for improved response

According to Frost & Sullivan's definition of ATD, behavioural detection is based on what the malware does rather than what it is. However, mitigating threats goes beyond the detection phase. According to Frost & Sullivan's research director, Frank Dickson, "Without a system capable of automated response to quickly react to threats once discovered, companies are effectively an open window for data exfiltration or malware propagation on their networks. Data exfiltration is measured in minutes; the metric for response needs to be the same.”

ForeScout CounterACT works with ATD solutions to provide an effective approach to risk management and threat mitigation. The joint solutions provide real-time visibility and compliance management of devices on the network, effective response to APTs and zero-day threats, and automation to efficiently and accurately mitigate endpoint risks and advanced threats.

“Combining CounterACT with leading ATD solutions such as those from Bromium, Damballa, Invincea and Palo Alto Networks allows customers to scan their network devices and give additional clues to determine the extent of infection, while also initiating action to prevent malware propagation and the likelihood of a data breach,” said Len Rosenberg, RVP of Systems Engineering at ForeScout. “Our ControlFabric integrations demonstrate ForeScout’s commitment to delivering holistic solutions that help customers derive the greatest benefit from their security investments and significantly improve their security postures.”

Details of ControlFabric integrations can be found in ForeScout's Technology Partners Page

Cyber Security Coalition

ForeScout Technologies is also making its expertise and technology available on other partnership platforms including the recently announced expansion of the Cyber Security Coalition (CSC). The coalition is an initiative of FireEye and shares the ForeScout vision of providing an integrated approach to help joint customer enterprises block advanced attacks. This is achieved by enabling partners within the CSC to have access to FireEye's Community Threat Intelligence.

“Expanding the Cyber Security Coalition extends FireEye’s security platform to a broader community of organisations that rely on our threat intelligence insights for protection against today’s new breed of cyber attacks," said David DeWalt, FireEye chairman of the board and CEO.   “Advanced attack groups hit organisations hard and they should make use of the unique visibility provided and move quickly to deploy this data across their networks.  CSC makes this intelligence much more widely available, enabling far more rapid and effective customer protection.”

Commenting on the Cyber Security Coalition, ForeScout's CEO, Michael DeCesare said, "Attackers are deploying an increasingly broad and advanced set of tactics to breach enterprises. It is incumbent upon security teams to stay ahead of the knowledge curve and prioritise which threats present the biggest risk. The CSC is a vital step towards helping enterprises fortify their security postures and combat today’s sophisticated, fast moving attackers.”

SC Magazine Award Success

ForeScout is also celebrating success in the 2015 SC Awards in which the company was named as the recipient of the Reader Trust Award Best NAC Solution, having beaten competition from other nominees including Cisco, Cryptzone, Hexis and Trustwave.

ForeScout's next generation Network Access Control (NAC) technology is represented by the CounterACT platform which gives real time visibility of users, applications, systems and devices (including BYOD endpoints) on the network. IT organisations can use it to centrally apply granular policies to understand their true security posture and to respond automatically to a wide variety of security issues.

Commenting on ForeScout's award success, Michael DeCesare said, "The explosion of mobile devices, cloud, and wireless access has thrown a giant spotlight on securing the network. This is where the action is, and the rapid growth of network security companies, including ForeScout, proves it.”

“There is no question that in a time when breaches are becoming everyday news, CounterACT is making a remarkable difference in helping organisations improve accessibility without compromising policy or protection. This award offers proof that NAC technologies are top-of-mind in the industry, and reinforces our commitment to pushing innovation and integration even further,” he concluded.
