Corps Security is celebrating after winning the prestigious Inspiration in HR Award at the 2012 Security Excellence Awards, which recently took place at the famous Hilton Hotel in Park Lane, London. The Award recognises Corps Security’s development of ground-breaking initiatives that are designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of its front line, operational and support function management teams, as well as its commitment to providing a meaningful career structure.
Now in their fourteenth year the Security Excellence Awards celebrate the practitioners and projects that represent the best the industry has to offer. Award entries were shortlisted earlier this year and then judged by a panel of independent experts from all areas of the security sector, including end users, academics and the police.
Dubbed the ‘security industry Oscars’, the event was once again organised by UBM Live Security Portfolio and Info4Security. Hosted by comedian, Simon Evans, over 1,000 people were in attendance to toast the industry’s pioneers.
The Inspiration in HR Award acknowledges the outstanding work of human resources teams and is supported by SSR Personnel. The Award recognises those who make a significant impact in terms of management and corporate performance within the businesses they serve. Brian Sims, editor of Info4Security and chairman of the judging panel, said, ‘HR professionals play a key role in the selection, training and monitoring of individuals and Corps Security was deemed to have excelled in all aspects of the judging criteria.’
Over recent years Corps Security has instigated a variety of programmes that meet the needs of its diverse employee demographic and has also implemented a range of initiatives including its Customer and Colleague Charters. Corps Security has been widely recognised for its approach to career development and its Securing Success programme was singled out for special praise by the Security Excellence Awards judges.
The Securing Success management development programme is designed for all Corps Security’s junior and middle management personnel and consists of six one-day modules covering a broad range of topics such as people management and leadership, finance, health and safety and compliance, operational security knowledge, sales and marketing, and time management and organisational skills. Further, the recently introduced Securing Excellence e-learning modules for front line security employees have been designed and developed by Corps Security’s HR team in conjunction with subject matter experts from across the business.
Upon Senior HR Partner, Mick Clark, collecting the Inspiration in HR Award, Corps Security’s chief executive, Peter Webster, commented, ‘This award is well deserved recognition for the activities of what is the industry’s foremost HR department. I am incredibly proud of their achievements and the way they have put initiatives in place that mean that every member of the Corps Security team, at whatever level, can enhance their knowledge and have their voice heard. Congratulations to all of those involved.’
