Dynamic content analysis enables School Guardian to offer a more detailed web site screening service to prevent school internet users from accessing objectionable content. |

Internet security specialists SmoothWall has announced plans to showcase the latest version of its School Guardian web filter at BETT 2008. (January 9-12, Olympia, London)
As the latest addition to SmoothWall's popular range of BECTA-accredited web filters, the 2008 version of School Guardian is reassuringly full of practical new features.
School administrators can now enjoy much more visibility and control over network and Internet use with new support for Instant Messaging applications and real-time traffic logs and graphs. Automatic updates from the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) also ensure that blocklists are kept current and legally compliant - an important addition to the software's existing intelligent filtering technology.
Other valuable enhancements include dramatically improved reporting, logging and configuration capabilities and a new easy-to-understand dashboard for 'at-a-glance' surfing surveillance. More flexible controls also mean that filtering restrictions can now be 'fine-tuned' based on time of day, user privileges or policy.
The real secret to SmoothWall's success in schools is Dynamic Content Analysis - a technology that can screen the actual content and construction of web pages in detail, detecting and blocking objectionable material as well as dangerous hidden content and the proxy sites that help IT-savvy students to evade web filters.
With the emergence of web 2.0, protecting against the perils of the Internet is now a much more sophisticated science with less intelligent filters looking increasingly inadequate. With School Guardian, education administrators can effectively take control of web usage without breaking the budget.
