Sales turnover growth plan for Shred-It in 2010

Shred-It UK : 18 December, 2009  (Company News)
Information destruction company forecasts increase in turnover during 2010 after strong financial performance during 2009
Shred-it has announced plans to grow its UK sales turnover to over £35 million during 2010 following a strong 2009 financial performance. This year marks the tenth anniversary of Shred-it's operations in the UK, having first opened for business here in 1999.

The firm, which has its UK corporate headquarters in Manchester and operates from 15 locations across the UK, saw total sales turnover exceed £23 million between January and October 2009. These figures represent an increase of 15 per cent on sales turnover during the corresponding period in 2008. The UK business remains on course to exceed £27 million of revenue in 2009.

The announcement follows a sustained period of growth for Shred-it during 2009, which has seen the number of regular customers served by the UK business rise by more than 3,000 during the ten months to October, taking the overall total to over 20,000. This growth reflects the growing awareness among businesses in the UK of the dangers posed by identity theft.

The year has also witnessed the opening of a new Shred-it branch in Nottingham (July), taking the total number of the firm's branches across the country to 15, including franchises. The company now plans to open new branches at locations in South Wales and Norfolk during the coming year.

Robert Guice, Executive Vice President, Shred-it UK, said: "This has been a momentous year for our UK business, which has flourished as public and private sector organisations have grown more aware of the financial and reputational risks associated with breaches of confidential data.

"Clients recognise value and welcome our excellence in providing information destruction services which are completely secure and delivered directly to their doorsteps. This success has given us the confidence to both invest in our business and put in place a blueprint for sustained growth into 2010 and beyond.

"Our plans for growth include the opening of new branches in such key locations in South Wales and Norfolk, moves which will help us maintain our level of local service to new and existing customers in these areas of the UK."

For the provision of on site services, the business now operates a total fleet of 118 specially adapted trucks nationwide, an increase of 15 since December 2008 following a further investment in excess of £2 million during 2009 with 4 additional new trucks coming in by the end of the year into Birmingham, Manchester, Milton Keynes and Newcastle.

Business performance during 2009 has also enabled Shred-it to make investments in terms of personnel, with 84 new roles being created, primarily to support the firm's sales functions across the UK and taking the total number of UK employees to 404.

The firm also plans to create an additional 10 jobs during 2010 at its UK operational support centre in Sale, Cheshire; as well as the hire of 15 new Customer Service Representatives and a further 20 sales staff.

Other key achievements of the UK business during 2009 include successful accreditation with the EN15713 standard, which governs document destruction practices in the UK.
