Intrepid Security : 14 August, 2015  (Application Story)
The refurbished Chelsea football club retail outlet has had its EAS tagging system replaced with RF tagging for improved security and prevention of retail losses
RF tagging system installed in refurbished retail outlet

Over the summer, Chelsea FC have been busy with pre-season preparations at their megastore for the start of the new season. Closed since the end of May, it is the first major refurbishment since the store opened over ten years ago.

The new, larger megastore, which re-opened on the 3rd of August, has lots of innovations designed to improve the visitor experience.  New store security and marketing tools have also been upgraded to improve efficiency for the store management team.

Intrepid was tasked with replacing the existing EAS tagging (which incidentally we had installed some 5 years ago) within the store, with our latest RF system, the Rembrandt.  Updating the look of the security to match the new store interior, in addition to providing the benefits of the latest tagging technology and reliability. The Rembrandt systems are sited at three points in the store; one at the entrance and two at the two exits: one of which is only open on match days to cope with the 10,000 visitors which pass through the doors.

Intrepid have also added 5 thermal overhead people counters within the store, to allow the management to monitor traffic flow on each of the two floors, as well as between floors, on the two staircases. This should enable the team to improve staffing levels, merchandising and generally give a much better level of service to their customers by understanding the routes through the store.

Paul Newbury, overseeing the project for Intrepid Security says: “ The new Rembrandt tagging system is technically superior to anything else available for the price and working a treat. By working closely worked with the Retail team, we made sure they got the People Counter coverage they required.  By monitoring the people traffic by counter location, the team will be able to identify customer hotspots and busier areas within the store, to maximize merchandising opportunities.”

The club already has valuable merchandising data following the first home game, which they will build on over the season to expand sales and merchandise smarter.
