Ability to meet the needs of retailers whilst complying with Payment Card Industry standards results in award for Protegrity's retail security software. |

Protegrity Corporation announces that its Defiance Security Software Suite has won the 'Excellence in Security Solution for Retail 2008' award from Info Security Products Guide, a US publication on security-related products and technologies.
Award winners were announced today at the 2008 'Executive Leadership Summit' hosted by Technosium at the Santa Clara Convention Centre, California. 'We are delighted to have won the Excellence in Security Solution for Retail award,' says Gordon Rapkin, Protegrity's president and CEO. 'This reaffirms Protegrity's longstanding commitment to developing solutions that meet retailers' challenging data security needs.'
Retailers, along with other organisations that store, process or transmit credit card payments are required to comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, a set of guidelines intended to enhance protection of payment card data. Organisations that are not in compliance with PCI DSS face potential fines and/or loss of ability to accept payment cards.
Protegrity's Defiance Suite is designed to balance the business needs of retailers with PCI DSS data protection requirements, enabling real security and regulatory compliance to coexist peacefully with business process and system performance needs.
Defiance's patented encryption and key management systems, teamed with its threat detection and alert/audit functions, protects sensitive data continuously as it as moves through POS systems, polling servers, operational databases, and archives. Centralised security management enables consistent policy enforcement throughout the entire distributed enterprise.
Data breaches rose sharply to unprecedented levels in 2007, and the 'trend isn't expected to turn around anytime soon,' according to an Associated Press report published on 30 December 2007.
Security news tracking group Attrition.org estimates more than 162 million records were compromised worldwide in 2007, with 49 million reported compromised in 2006. A security breach that resulted in the theft of payment card data at international retailer TJX accounts for more than half the total records reported lost in 2007.
'We worked closely with industry leaders and our customers to ensure Defiance Security Software Suite offers all of the features needed in the retail environment,' says Rapkin. 'Defiance provides strong data security, compatibility, compliance, advanced performance and ease of use for retail and all other industries that require comprehensive data protection in support of real world business needs.'
