Department of Homeland Security expands options for domestic radiation detection equipment with purchase order for Rapiscan detectors. |
|
OSI Systems has announced that its Security division, Rapiscan Systems, was awarded an approximate $1.5 million contract option for the next-phase of a data-fusion program with the Department of Homeland Security Domestic Nuclear Detection Office ("DNDO").
The aim of the project is to improve the performance of existing nuclear threat detection techniques through the development of integrated systems utilising X-ray and neutron based inspection methods. Integrated algorithms developed under the study are potentially expected to be deployable in a range of nuclear threat detection systems for cargo and container screening.
Ajay Mehra, President of Rapiscan Systems, stated, "This effort underscores the commitment and quality of our engineers in the development of advanced detection algorithms that utilize both X-ray and neutron technologies. We look forward to continuing our work with the DNDO to develop systems that enable for the non-intrusive inspection of cargo for the detection of contraband items."
