Q-Park protects parking staff with Peoplesafe.

Rocksure Systems : 05 June, 2007  (Application Story)
Vulnerable parking staff gain improved personal safety at work with the provision of the Peoplesafe lone worker system.
A forward-looking company with a strategy of adopting new technology to ensure the security of its premises and personnel, Q-Park Group, an innovative parking organisation, had no hesitation in acquiring Peoplesafe when introduced to the award-winning device by Rocksure Systems. Now, when parking hosts are working alone, specifically at night, they know they have the additional safety provided by Peoplesafe.

With its headquarters in Maastricht, the Netherlands the Q-Park Group is an innovative European parking organisation, with high quality parking facilities in ten countries through Europe. In the UK, Q-Park operates across the country with facilities in city centres, airports and NHS Trusts providing parking spaces for some 45,000 vehicles.

"I was conscious that as our parking hosts regularly work alone at night and could be vulnerable to an accident or attack", says Clive Comport, Quality Manager at Q-Park. "Now with Peoplesafe they have peace of mind knowing they can summon help at a touch of a button."

Resembling a normal ID holder, but packed with the latest mobile phone technology, Peoplesafe not only enables the lone worker to covertly raise an alarm if threatened, but also allows a third party to listen to what is happening and record events whatever the distance. The device can also support the pinpointing of a worker's location using GSM/LBS technology.

Users press an amber alert button notify their employer when they know they are entering a potentially hazardous situation. If they then have cause to press the red alert, operators at Rocksure's remote monitoring centre retrieves the information on their locality, listens in on the line to what is happening and co-ordinates the appropriate emergency support - involving the police if necessary.

"In addition, because Peoplesafe can record an altercation between a customer and a parking host, it safeguards our employee by providing a true record of what has taken place", concluded Clive Comport. "Our personnel are delighted with the additional safety and protection provided by Peoplesafe which they now wear automatically as soon as they go on duty".

Rocksure Systems is providing Q-Park with a total solutions package that includes the Peoplesafe units, operator response, tracking, training, configuration with the most appropriate mobile network and ongoing support. Peoplesafe is also ideal for a wide range of other professions including retail workers, security organisations, sales staff, financial advisors and maintenance staff.

The new Corporate Manslaughter legislation due to become law in June is focusing attention on lone workers and a company's legal and social duty of care to provide staff with safety equipment that reduces their working risks from both attack and injury. Peoplesafe offers an effective way of addressing growing concerns about verbal and physical abuse that are shared by employer and employee alike.
