Personnel Safety Locator for remote worker monitoring.

TBS Mobility : 24 January, 2008  (New Product)
Tracking tool from TBS enables companies to conform to corporate manslaughter legislation by providing protection and location awareness of vulnerable workers.
TBS has announced the launch of a product to help companies protect themselves and their human capital, as the Corporate Manslaughter Bill comes into force in April this year.

The TBS Personnel Safety Locator (PSL) works on a mobile PDA and provides companies with the first product to integrate health & safety, risk assessment and location based monitoring tools to protect and monitor remote workers.

The PSL product is the result of mobile technology convergence and integrates GPS and wireless communications with the back office systems. The result provides a real-time view of remote assets where ever they are.

Between 1992 and 2005, at least 3,452 workers were killed in industrial accidents in Britain. Charges were brought in 34 of those cases and there were convictions in seven, involving either small companies or sole traders. The government estimates those accidents have cost the nation £32 billion in lost productivity and ill health of workers.

One of the key areas which will be scrutinised as a result of the new legislation is that of the 'lone worker'.

Statutory rules mean that senior managers must:.

- Undertake appropriate health and safety risk assessments

- Make provision for lone workers who may be faced with a risk of violence

- Put contact procedures in place for emergencies so that the alarm can be raised and prompt medical attention provided if there is an accident

- Ensure lone workers are medically fit and suitable for the lone-working role

The culmination of almost 12 years effort, the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act could potentially cost businesses £21.2m in legal bills should they fail to comply.

Steve Reynolds, Managing Director, TBS Enterprise Mobility, said: "Risk assessment and lone worker protection must become a priority to all organisations in providing duty of care. A large number of senior managers do not think this applies to them because of the white collar nature of their businesses. They are wrong; a recent survey undertaken by Fleet News found that 60% of privately owned cars used for work were not safe to be on the road and around a third were not insured properly this alone presents a huge risk to not only the drivers of these vehicles but also the general public."

The TBS Personnel Safety Locator helps companies achieve the following:.

- Accurately track field workers to ensure their safety.

- Comply with health and safety laws.

- Integrate field worker location with workflow for greater efficiency.

- Easily implement personnel protection with existing IT systems and business processes.

- Provide field workers with a rounded solution for risk assessment and Personal protection.

TBS TaskMaster and Personnel Safety Locator can effectively integrate field worker tracking and protection functions with bespoke, audited risk assessment procedures - all managed in real time via handheld PDAs.
