Partnership tightens security in IoT environments

ForeScout Technologies : 04 March, 2016  (Company News)
ForeScout and FireEye have entered a strategic partnership combining their skills in agentless visibility and cyber threat mitigation to protect networks with IoT endpoints
Partnership tightens security in IoT environments

ForeScout Technologies and FireEye have combined their respective expertise in agentless cybersecurity and halting advanced cyber attacks with the announcement of a strategic partnership. The collaboration is designed to give joint customers broad agentless visibility into their networks alongside the intelligence and expertise provided by FireEye to close the gap between detecting and responding to cyber threats.

ForeScout and FireEye are able to provide modern distributed enterprises with a holistic and consolidated approach to securing all devices by providing them with actionable intelligence and visibility from across their enterprise networks. The combination of ForeScout's agentless visibility approach with FireEye's endpoint security capabilities enables customers to isolate endpoints that have a high probability of being compromised and initiate defensive responses.

This approach is a growing requirement across all industries with the increasing levels of Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices being connected into both corporate IT networks and industrial control systems. According to a prediction from IDC, 90% of IT networks will have had a security breach relating to the IoT by as soon as the end of this year.

Most IoT devices can't have "agent" software loaded to them to provide visibility to security software and so the partnership between ForeScout and FireEye overcomes this problem with the use of agentless visibility to discover and classify such devices. The solution monitors the network for unknown devices, dynamically segments them and deploys system-wide responses to defend against advanced threats.

Michael DeCesare and David DeWalt of ForeScout and FireEyeCommenting on this requirement for visibility across the entire network, FireEye's chairman and CEO, David DeWalt said, "With an increasing number of IoT devices connecting into both the enterprise as well as critical infrastructure providers, security teams need complete visibility into their networks and the capability to quickly detect and shut down a compromised device. Our partnership will enable visibility and situational awareness across connected devices and help keep the internet of things from becoming a cybersecurity nightmare.”

ForeScout and FireEye already have a number of customers successfully using the combined solution of ForeScout agentless visibility, control and automation with FireEye network security. The partnership will expand to include ForeScout integrations with FireEye email protection, endpoint, and cloud-based analytics platform.

“The current siloed approach to security simply does not work,” said Michael DeCesare, CEO and president at ForeScout. “This partnership is a great example of how security companies can work together to automate response to threats that we are battling every day in information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT).”

“The integrated ForeScout-FireEye solution offers our customers an agentless way to not only monitor their global networks, but to also take action to neutralise threats if and when they are identified,” offered Mike Quattrochi, CEO of CipherTechs, a global information security company. “Our customers operate anywhere between 1,000 and 50,000 endpoints on their networks all around the globe. The visibility and actionability of this technology means that our customers are saving hundreds of hours every week through automated remediation and consistent uptime.”

Commenting on the way the two companies complement each other, Myles Bray, Vice President, EMEA Sales at ForeScout concluded, "ForeScout and FireEye are a perfect combination for addressing the advanced threats that customers are suffering from across the EMEA market. FireEye has one of the most comprehensive threat detection platforms in the industry and ForeScout adds real-time visibility of devices - including IoT - connecting to the network and provides complete access control and management."
