Synectics : 06 January, 2015  (Application Story)
Bus operator in Dublin takes measures to improve safety and security across its new fleet of vehicles with the introduction of mobile surveillance systems
New buses in Dublin to be equipped with mobile surveillance

Synectics Mobile Systems is working in partnership with Wrightbus to deliver advanced surveillance systems for 70 new vehicles in the enhanced Dublin Bus fleet.

The mobile CCTV specialist already has an established relationship with Dublin Bus, having supplied security kit for its entire 900-strong vehicle line-up, since it was brought on board back in 2005.

Dublin Bus, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ireland’s state-owned Córas Iompair Éireann Group, carries 118 million passengers a year and provides a range of bus services, including cross city routes, commuter services and sightseeing tours. The new buses represent an investment in new surveillance technology, as part of the €25 million Dublin Bus fleet replacement programme.

Featuring the Synectics’ T Series digital video recorders (DVR), the new buses are all set to benefit from an intelligent and robust solution for CCTV monitoring in a demanding transportation environment. Each vehicle is also equipped with 13 colour cameras, capturing high resolution internal and external footage.

The 70 new double decker buses will operate on six routes across Dublin. As well as the new CCTV technology, they feature free Wi-Fi for passengers and bilingual passenger information signs in the upper and lower saloons to announce the next bus stop.

Paddy Doherty, CEO at Dublin Bus comments: “Our new fleet has been designed to enrich the journey experience and heighten safety for both passengers and employees.

“The new surveillance systems ensure we capture high quality footage on-board our vehicles. As well as helping us to deter anti-social behaviour, this allows video evidence to be quickly pinpointed should it be required.”

Synectics continues to be a leading mobile CCTV supplier in Ireland and this latest project further strengthens its reputation in the Irish market. Jeff Fail, Managing Director at Synectics Mobile Systems, comments: “It’s great to be continuing our journey with Dublin Bus and work with them to provide advanced surveillance technology for their elite new fleet.

“The equipment we’ve supplied is designed to withstand the demanding conditions prevalent on passenger service vehicles such as these. Footage will be captured at a high resolution and frame rate, so people can be clearly identified and split-second incidents aren’t missed.”
