Micromark focus on home security

Micromark : 10 July, 2007  (New Product)
In the run up to National Home Security Week, sponsor Micromark details its range of products for protecting the home and family.
As the sponsor of 'National Home Security Week', Micromark announces this year's dates - 25th-31st August 2007. It is the sixth year of the annual campaign, designed to encourage home owners to think about simple Home Security measures and help prevent crime in their home - often a very costly experience both emotionally and financially. Building on the success of previous years, the 2007 National Home Security Week looks set to be another high profile event.

This year's campaign will run over the summer holiday period, culminating in the August Bank Holiday week - encouraging consumers to look at improving the security of their homes before they go away, and maximising the potential sales in a traditionally busy home/garden DIY season. Alarms, CCTV, security lighting, safes and timers are all set to see a surge in demand from customers.

Research by Micromark has shown that 67% of burglars were put off targeting a house if it had an alarm or CCTV system installed, and 72% of consumers worry about being burgled while on holiday. This and other similar messages are invaluable sales tools to encourage consumers to act now to improve their Home Security measures.

Consumers obviously feel very strongly about securing their homes as Micromark research found. Despite the threat of prosecution, British homeowners are prepared to protect their homes and family from burglars using extreme measures. Research1 from Micromark shows 8 out of 10 people would use anything to hand to protect their homes if faced with an unwanted intruder. Men would go even further - 1 in 10 men would use a gun and 1 in 8 would use a knife. The clear aim of National Home Security Week 2007 is to increase awareness of the effective preventative measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of intruders gaining entry in the first place.

Nathan Cole, Security Product Manager at Microma rk comments: "Micromark aims to educate consumers about the Home Security options available to them, and with the backing of high-profile third parties, such as the Home Office, we hope to significantly boost footfall for retailers across the DIY and Home Security industry.

"Burglary is something people do worry about, but they often need persuading to take action, so National Home Security Week is all about highlighting the simple, affordable but very effective preventative measures everyone can take to improve their peace of mind."

CCTV - The Twin Video Starting Camera System with Time & Date Stamp (model no.MM 40028) displays the time/date of the recording onto your TV screen and videotape. It automatically starts your video recording when the camera sensor detects movement and includes a two-way intercom to see hear and talk to your visitors. It comes with 1x basic & 1x PIR camera allowing switching between the two views.

Alarms - Fit an alarm to act as both a visual and physical deterrent to potential intruders. The Easy Fit Wirefree Dual Powered Alarm System (MM40061) can give peace of mind whether you're home or away. The kit includes three wirefree PIR movement sensors, one wirefree magnetic door/window contact and a remote key fob with arm/disarm and panic button modes. The alarm is ideal for DIY installation as it's totally wirefree and works on battery and solar power. The Single Zone Weatherproof Exterior Alarm (MM23137) is ideal for shed security and is pre-wired for ease of installation. It includes a dual positioning magnetic door contact.

Security Lighting - Whether you prefer a traditional or modern look, you don't have to compromise on style or pay through the nose to get effective security lighting. Consider the classic styling of the Amalfi PIR Security Lantern (MM4811) or the contemporary look of the Taranto Wall Light with PIR (MM19233). Both have a movement detector that switches on the light when anyone approaches at night.

Timers - A simple but very effective measure when looking to protect your home is the small investment of installing plug-in timers that can be set up to turn lights, radios and TV sets on and off, either randomly or at regular intervals - giving the impression that your home is occupied when it's empty. Programmable Digital Timers from Micromark start from as little as £7.99.

National Home Security Week will be supported by a consumer and trade public relations programme, and a targeted promotions campaign.
