Megapixel surveillance camera with 360 degree coverage

Mobotix : 28 July, 2008  (New Product)
360 degree digital surveillance camera with IP connectivity and power over Ethernet launched by Mobotix
Mobotix has launched the Q22, the world’s first 360 degree coverage, 3 MegaPixel security camera. The Q22 uses no moving parts and features a unique hemispheric lens to cover a wider area then traditional fixed cameras with technology to digitally flatten, pan, tilt and zoom any image. With network convergence in mind, the Q22 can run entirely over Power over Ethernet (PoE) with internal storage buffer to provide localised recording in the event of network outage and to help deliver better quality of service, especially across wireless networks.

“The Q22 is a unique design with many innovative features integrated for the first time in a 3 MegaPixel camera,” comments Mike Lewis, Mobotix UK & Eire Country Manager, “Our design philosophy has also extended to deployment especially within shared IP networks to allow the Q22 to meet the needs of both IT and Security managers.”

For security managers, alongside its 3.1 MegaPixel quality delivering up to 25 frames per second, the Q22 has built in speaker and microphone providing bi-directional audio with full support for leading CCTV management platforms.

For IT managers required to support the Q22 on IP networks, the camera has full SIP support, with built-in firewall capability to ease integration and management concerns. In addition, the Mobotix distributed architecture allows the Q22 to record, process and encode video locally to a 16GB internal buffer then transmit at variable data rates. The use of low bandwidth MxPEG file format also drastically reduces bandwidth consumption and requires no additional Quality-of-Service protocols.

“The high resolution and all-round capability of the Q22 allows fewer cameras to be deployed within a given area which reduces cost and bandwidth requirements,” explains Lewis, “In addition, the distributed nature of the technology also reduces the associated cost of the equipment required within monitoring station while still offering enhanced pan, tilt, zoom, image recognition and motion sensing capabilities.” Lewis also highlights the Q22’s suitability to wireless installation, lack of separate power requirements and high reliability significantly reduces ongoing maintenance costs.

Announced to the UK channel at the recent national partner conference in June, the Q22 has already received over 1000 pre-launch orders from its partners. “Q22 is the first of a new generation of CCTV set to replace analogue systems on mass over the next few years,” comments Martin Morris, UK Security Sales Manager from Mayflex, a major Mobotix distributor in the UK, “Mobotix has no analogue legacy to protect and has quickly established itself as the leader in MegaPixel CCTV technology. Based on early sales, the Q22 looks likely to be its biggest selling camera – especially within retail and education.”

The Q22 is IP65 rated, meaning it is weatherproof and can withstand extreme temperature, -30C to +60C (-22F to +140F) and is available in a range of install options including wall mounting, inset installation into false (cavity) ceilings, vandal protection and hard surface mounting.

The Q22 camera comes with MxControlCenter, a video management software developed by Mobotix which is license free. MxControlCenter offers recording and management of unlimited numbers of clients, cameras and storage devices. Users can record video continuously, on schedule, on alarm and/or on motion detection. It has multiple search functions for recorded events. The remote client feature allows any number of users to remotely access live video and recorded footage.
