Low cost PTZ thermal imaging camera for 24-hour surveillance.

FLIR Systems Ltd : 11 May, 2007  (New Product)
Thermal imaging camera mounted on pan-tilt platform improves surveillance effectiveness in low light conditions.
Making thermal imaging more accessible and affordable is a core aim for FLIR Systems. Its latest product introduction for security and surveillance applications certainly supports this drive. The PTZ-19 is a thermal imaging camera mounted on a rugged pan-and-tilt mechanism offering excellent value for money.

Introduced as a sister product to the static SR-19, the uncooled PTZ-19 can rotate up to +/-180deg horizontally and tilt +/-45deg vertically. This increases situational awareness as the operator is able to scan an entire area and focus on any scene. The PTZ-19 also has a 2x digital zoom with DDE (digital detail enhancement) for increased detail of the scene.

In common with the SR-19, the PTZ-19 offers exceptional awareness in both day and night applications irrespective of the prevailing light level and weather conditions. It can see events that are easily missed by the naked eye and conventional CCTV cameras. Fog, smoke, heavy rain and snow do not compromise its efficiency.

The thermal technology this camera employs ensures that intruders can no longer hide in the shadows or undergrowth. It allows security staff to see them, monitor them and track them. It is a pro-active tool that provides the necessary early-warning to allow a considered response to the threat.

Unlike other night vision systems that require low amounts of light to generate an image the PTZ-19 requires no light at all. This makes the camera simple and quick to install. Its maintenance needs are minimal and cost of operation is much lower than that of conventional CCTV systems. The absence of additional lighting also eliminates an unwanted by-product, an illuminated route of attack that draws attention to a facility and creates shadows.

Once an intruder has been detected by the PTZ-19 he or she cannot hide. Importantly the intruder will not be aware of the thermal camera surveillance giving the security team the upper hand in countering the attack.

Employing a proven long-wave 320 x 240 pixels detector the PTZ-19 is equipped as standard with a 19mm lens that offers a 36deg field of view providing excellent situational awareness. Simple plug and play allows easy installation and set-up and images from the camera can be exported to virtually any existing display that accepts composite video.

The new PTZ-19 creates a virtual security fence and when integrated into an existing CCTV infrastructure provides early detection and clear visibility of intruders 24/7 all year round.

Thanks to volume production FLIR Systems has been able to commercialise thermal imaging technology effectively making it affordable by a much greater range of potential users. The PTZ-19 is yet another good example of this trend offering significant operational benefits at a very attractive price.

FLIR Systems' programme of continuous product development ensures its thermal cameras combine several important factors. They offer versatility, durability, scalability and easy connectivity to ensure there is a model to suit any application regardless of environmental condition. They represent exceptional value for money and provide a rapid return on investment.
