Laptop Guardian distribution in UK by VCOMM

Alcatel-Lucent : 07 July, 2008  (Company News)
VCOMM signed up by Alcatel-Lucent for UK distribution of OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian for the protection of corporate data on the move
Alcatel-Lucent has announced a new distribution partnership with ICT specialist VCOMM, to distribute its award-winning OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian to both new and current UK business partners.

Invented in Bell Labs and commercialised in Alcatel-Lucent Ventures, the Alcatel-Lucent Nonstop Laptop Guardian guarantees the security of mobile laptop data by allowing organisations to remotely secure, monitor, manage and locate mobile computers. If a laptop is reported lost or stolen, the solution can immediately and automatically destroy all data held on the device, even if the computer is turned off. It also enables companies to take remote control of any laptop in order to apply security patches or track its location.

VCOMM will look to promote the new product, which is scheduled for a Q3/2008 UK launch, to its existing partner base of service providers, systems integrators and resellers. As part of the agreement, VCOMM has created a dedicated internal security division, to provide partners with the sales and technical support and expertise necessary to achieve sales success with the Nonstop Laptop Guardian. It will be also looking to establish additional UK channels through the recruitment of further security-focused value-added resellers.

Scott Dobson, managing director and founder of VCOMM commented, 'I am extremely excited about working closely with Alcatel-Lucent to promote the Laptop Guardian. I believe there is a vast opportunity for channel partners and service providers to wrap real value around the solution. Laptop security is at the forefront of most IT departments' agenda and you only need look in the national press to see that data breaches are almost an everyday occurrence. VCOMM is looking for innovative, focused security and mobility channel partners to open up this market place. The opportunity is vast and now is the time to engage.'

The VCOMM agreement complements Alcatel-Lucent's Nonstop Laptop Guardian partnerships with direct resellers n3k and Magdalene Networks, and will help ensure the wide availability of the product to end-user organisations from day one. Alcatel-Lucent is also looking to engage with its existing partner community in order to form further partnerships around Nonstop Laptop Guardian.

'The de-perimeterisation of the enterprise has left IT departments with the uphill struggle of trying to control the use of laptops and prevent information from falling into the wrong hands - it's clear that a new framework is needed to address this challenge,' said David Parker, vice president for Alcatel-Lucent's enterprise activities in UK and Ireland. 'As a consequence, initial interest in the Nonstop Laptop Guardian product has been huge, and so it's vital that we have the logistics in place to handle this end-user demand right from the off. The partnership with VCOMM will be instrumental to achieving this initial objective and creating real momentum as we move further into the UK security market.'
