L-1 launches rugged live scan device for extreme field usage

L-1 Identity Solutions : 11 September, 2007  (New Product)
TouchPrint 4100 live scan device available for deployment in rugged environments for both military and commercial applications
L-1 Identity Solutions has introduced the TouchPrint Enhanced Definition 4100 Extreme device for military and civilian applications in severe or harsh environments.
The new TouchPrint 4100 Extreme from Identix Incorporated, a wholly owned subsidiary of L-1 Identity Solutions, continues to set a higher standard for the industry by successfully passing relevant ratings tests. The TouchPrint 4100 Extreme passed relevant MIL-STD-810F tests issued by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) that make it operational even in harsh conditions. It also is now rated IP65 based on the classification defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC529). Environ Laboratories, an independent engineering and testing services company based in Minnesota, conducted the tests and issued the certification.
"We have been regarded as the technology leader in the live scan market because of our ability to deliver beyond the standard requirements and exceed customer expectations," said Jim Moar, President of L-1's Identix subsidiary. "The new TouchPrint 4100 Extreme is the only live scan product in the market today to have passed both rigorous environmental certifications."
Additionally, the TouchPrint 4100 Extreme has a high-impact polycarbonate ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, a material known for its strength and rigidity) blend enclosure, designed with shock-reducing bumpers and sealed with protective gaskets in key locations throughout the device. It has a durable, field-replaceable acrylic QuickCapture prism that protects the platen from various forms of abuse. The internal optics are shock mounted and secured to the case via rubber insulators with no moving parts.
The new unit is an extension of the successful TouchPrint Enhanced Definition 4100 live scan system that was introduced last year for both criminal and civil applications. The TouchPrint 4100 Extreme delivers the same revolutionary capabilities in a compact and more durable unit engineered to withstand the toughest conditions.
