Innovative fibre project award submissions invited

FTTH Council Europe : 02 October, 2009  (Company News)
FTTH Council Europe is inviting submissions of projects eligible for its forthcoming awards for innovative fibre technology developments and deployments
The FTTH Council Europe is to reward innovators in the field of fibre access with a series of high profile awards.

Individuals, institutions and businesses that have contributed their work and ideas to the cause of FTTH can be entered for a chance to win an FTTH Council Europe Innovation Award.

Awards are in three sub-categories:

* Technological and technical innovation
* Deployment and operation innovation
* Marketing and business innovation

The winners in each category will be announced at the prestigious FTTH Conference 2010, in Lisbon on 24 and 25 February, gaining recognition and visibility in front of an expected attendance of 2,500 FTTH stakeholders. All will receive a special crystal trophy and prize money of EUR 5,000.

The top ten submissions in each category will be published online following the awards.

An expert jury from academic institutions, neutral analysts and media experts will evaluate submissions.

All kinds of innovation will be considered, whether in the development of fibre technology and products, in the real life design, deployment and operation of access networks, or in developing the economical rationale for them.

Submissions can be made from October 1st 2009, online through the Council's conference website. A brief description of the innovation will be required, as well as a detailed paper of at least 3,000 words. Deadline for submissions is November 30th 2009.

"Innovation is key to European economic development," says FTTH Council Europe President Karel Helsen. "FTTH is a future-proof solution that contributes to a sustainable future. The Council takes its role as a promoter of innovation very seriously, which is why we want to use these awards to put the spotlight on projects that contribute to making fibre access happen in Europe."

Chair of the FTTH Council Europe's Deployment & Operations Committee Eric Festraets adds: "I would urge anyone with an interest in fibre access to attend our Lisbon event in February where they will have the chance to hear about all these innovations first hand and see the winners rewarded."
