Identity management and registration for developing countries

Identity management and registration for developing countries

Morpho (Safran) is supporting the new sustainable development objectives approved by the United Nations General Assembly by integrating civil registries and vital statistics (CRVS) in its MorphoCivis identity management and registration system. This state-of-the-art system addresses the expectations of developing countries by guaranteeing a legal identity for all citizens and access to public services.

The implementation of a powerful civil registry covering a country's entire population is one of the keys to the UN's commitment. In turn, it requires secure, digital civil registry systems, in particular supporting the establishment of statistics on entire populations. Governments and decision-makers use these statistics as a vital tool to support the development of their countries.

Morpho is bolstering its identity systems at a time when major development agencies are also focusing on identity issues, such as the World Bank with an initiative called ID4D (Identity for Development).

Morpho has over 25 years of experience in identity documents and population registration, aiming at managing elections, producing driving licences, delivering healthcare and welfare services. Morpho's broad experience in all areas concerning personal identification and the digital management of civil registries is clearly illustrated by its key role in programmes such as Aadhaar in India (with biometric data on nearly one billion people registered to date), the PMT programme in Colombia (modernisation of civil registries), and the Mauritanian identity programme (secure, digital population registry).

By using its MorphoCivis product, Morpho can provide a state-of-the-art system to governments with the tools to implement their e-governance vision, following national laws and processes and international recommendations.
