Taylor Wimpey has signed a national agreement with Rocksure Systems for its highly acclaimed Peoplesafe lone worker service. Peoplesafe devices have been distributed throughout the George Wimpey and Bryant Home Regions and will be used solely by the company's sales personnel.

Recognised for its exemplary health and safety management, Taylor Wimpey chose the Peoplesafe service after research by a Director who was given the task of carrying out a feasibility study on the use of alarms for lone worker protection. Deciding between fixed alarms or mobile devices, it was decided that a personal alarm would offer greater protection as it could be worn outside the office and moved from site to site.

With the decision made to utilise mobile lone worker devices, they looked at the options available. Having already used the Peoplesafe service he decided to conduct a trial supervised by National Marketing Manager, Karen Cullis.

"What sets us apart from our peers in the management of health and safety is the extent and depth of our policies", says Karen Cullis. "When considering the protection of our sales personnel, we wanted to create a partnership whereby staff had the impetus and infrastructure to manage their safety".

Rocksure Systems' Peoplesafe service is designed to encompass every aspect of a company's need to provide duty of care to its employees when working alone. The service combines the six-core elements that are essential for a credible and complete lone worker solution, namely the Peoplesafe unit, operator response, tracking, training, configuration with the most appropriate mobile network and ongoing support.

The Peoplesafe device resembles a normal ID holder but is in fact packed with the latest mobile technology. It enables a lone worker to discreetly raise an alarm if threatened and also allows a third party to listen to what is happening and record events whatever the distance. The device can also support the pinpointing of a worker's location using GSM/LBS technology.

The device includes a lanyard attachment that enables it to be worn around the neck as a standard ID and hides a 'rip alarm' function, which is triggered if the unit is forcibly removed from the wearer. Peoplesafe can be configured in a number of ways, thereby allowing an employer to adopt the device without the need to significantly change or alter current working practices.

Users press a 'checking in' button to notify Rocksure's monitoring centre when they know they are entering a potentially hazardous situation. If they then have cause to press the red alert, operators retrieve the information on their locality, listen in on the line to what is happening and co-ordinate the appropriate emergency support - involving the police if necessary.

"Rocksure Systems is now a leading provider of lone worker protection to the home building industry. This deal will help ensure that all Taylor Wimpey's sales personnel benefit from the most technically advanced lone worker protection in the world," said Martin Rogers, Sales Director at Rocksure Systems
