Unwanted adverts, toolbars and browser add-ons can now be simply eliminated with a new tool available from BitDefender

Bitdefender has launched an exclusive new layer of protection against unwanted adverts and toolbars by adding a free Adware Removal Tool for PC to its award-winning technologies.

As malvertising takes the cyber-crime spotlight, the Bitdefender Adware Removal Tool for PC provides complete protection against malicious programs that can hijack computers. The new tool eliminates annoying apps, adware, toolbars and other browser add-ons.

The launch follows a recent Bitdefender study published in the Virus Bulletin that showed one in three ad networks may serve malvertising. The research revealed almost 7 per cent of advertising landing pages were misleading, infecting users with malware or deceiving them with fraud, spam and phishing.

“We decided to use our expertise to create our own adware removal tool to offer full-range protection against the whole series of adware-related threats,” states Catalin Cosoi, Chief Security Strategist at Bitdefender. “The tool is backed-up by our anti-malware technologies. It helps users reclaim their computers, by keeping the apps they like, and getting rid of the numerous unwanted programs.”

The Bitdefender Adware Removal Tool supports any PC with Windows (XP or later Windows release) and Internet Explorer (6 or later version). The tool does not replace a security solution, which should be installed and updated on all internet-connected devices. Bitdefender users are already protected against adware.

After scanning computers, the Bitdefender Adware Removal Tool for PC marks a list of dangerous and annoying apps such as Adware.SwiftBrowse, Adware.Plush and Adware.BrowseFox. It only deletes programs after user approval.

The Adware Removal Tool for PC also fights Bundler and Keylogger software, which invade users’ privacy and may cause financial damage. Application.Bundler installers typically send private data, including geo-location, to third-party servers, while Keyloggers can steal sensitive information such as credit card data and spy on browser activity.
