Background screening and vetting professionals form European arm of the US National Association of Professional Background Screeners |
|
The majority of European background screening professionals in London have agreed to form the European Group of the NAPBS (National Association of Professional Background Screeners) trade association.
In Europe, while pre-employment background screening has been rapidly adopted by HR professionals, the absence of a trade association in this maturing market has meant that standards and best practices are not developed across the industry.
The US trade association NAPBS (National Association of Professional Background Screeners) was founded in 2003 in Morrisville, North Carolina to give the pre-employment screening industry the ability to effectively demonstrate its competence, reliability and willingness to adopt standards and promote best practices within the industry.
Steve Bailey, director of Reed Screening, commented: "I have been involved in this sector from its onset, and I'm pleased to see the market maturing and the adoption of self regulatory group with a wide church of professional screening members. We owe a lot to the US where the NAPBS has established itself as the voice of the industry in the United States and is reaching out across the world to form a global screening alliance to expand its efforts."
Alexandra Kelly, MD of Powerchex added: "As a group we all identified the need to demonstrate standards of global professionalism in screening and we are looking forward to working with our colleagues around the world to promote compliance with legal requirements, ethical business practices and foster awareness of issues related to data protection and privacy rights".
Concluded Eyal Ben-Cohen, MD of Verifile: "It's our aim to offer professional pre-employment screening services that meet today's global challenges of combating recruitment fraud and I'm sure that HR and Compliance professionals will appreciate the value of the NAPBS brand when seeking suppliers of screening services. By carrying the NAPBS logo a screening provider is committed to industry best practices as well as adhering to local laws and regulations in each country where they operate."
Robert Capwell, CKO of Employment Background Investigations and Past Chair of NAPBS USA said: "Since its formation, NAPBS has grown to represent the majority of the screening firms based in the U.S. and has established best practices and a united front to meet the highest expectations of clients and law-makers. HR professionals in Europe are big users of screening so we welcome the formation of a UK body to unify the industry and offer the professional standards already enjoyed by HR professionals in the US."
