DES hires for UK market development

Data Encryption Systems (DES) : 30 July, 2008  (Company News)
Business Development Manager to exploit the UK channel market for DESlock+ for end point protection
Data Encryption Systems (DES) has appointed a new Business Development Manager, Tony Ross-Booker, to further DESlock+ reach into the UK channel market.

David Tomlinson, Managing Director for DES, comments: “Up until this point, we have mainly operated with a direct sales model, but this is something we are keen to change moving forward. Our aim is that by the end of the year we will have a significant percentage of our sales for DESlock+ coming through the channel. Hiring Tony is a major part of this strategy. His knowledge and expertise in dealing with the channel will help to increase sales of DESlock+. Tony’s key focus will be signing new partners and establishing a UK distribution programme, with a view to extending into Europe later in the future.”

Tony brings with him twelve years sales experience and has been working directly in the IT and channel market since 2000. He has knowledge of the encryption market, having worked with both end users and the channel, distributing several full disk encryption product in the past. Tony comments:

“I was attracted to the position because I genuinely believe in the product and what it has to offer. Data protection is a hot topic, meaning the general awareness of encryption has been heightened, and DESlock+ is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the current climate. Today, end-users are much more savvy about what they want and need from an encryption tool. DES’s unique style of granular encryption allows users to actually encrypt the data on their system, rather than simply putting a blanket lock on everything (like with full disc) and as the market has matured people are recognising this difference. Full disk encryption is great at securely locking down a PC, but it doesn’t help when data is lost on CD/USB (for example it would not have prevented the HMRC debacle with the lost disc) or allow you to transport data safely electronically. Encrypting the actual data rather than the machine gives the user confidence that they have real control over who sees it.”

Tony concludes: “To sum up, DESlock+ is cost effective, very easy to use, and provides powerful protection, which gives the channel a very positive message to take to their customers – which makes my job a lot easier! We are already in talks with a specialist security distributor that I think will make a big difference.”

Tony joins DES from Sigma Software Distribution, where he was an External Business Development Manager. In this role Tony was in charge of the development of growth in the UK market for two publishers, Mindjet and Techsmith. This involved stimulating interest with the end user to feed back into the channel, while also providing reseller support and sales training, and relationship building with key customers and partners. Prior to Sigma, Tony held sales positions at: Intellicorp, Grey Matter, Reuters and Pendragon Promotions. In these roles and has worked with big name customers, such as: Fujitsu, Insight, Computer Centre, Basilica, Bytes, Repsol, DSGI, British Airways, JP Morgan and Cadburys.
