Defence department travel management system order.

L-1 Identity Solutions : 25 February, 2008  (Application Story)
The American Department of Defence has issued a supply and management contract to L-1 subsidiary for the management of secure travel for department members.
L-1 Identity Solutions has been awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) with a potential value of up to $50 million from the Program Management Office Defence Travel System (PMO-DTS), part of the Business Transformation Agency (BTA) of the Department of Defence (DoD). The BPA was awarded to Advanced Concepts, a wholly owned subsidiary of L-1 Identity Solutions. The BPA contract has a base term of one year valued at up to $10 million and may be extended for up to four additional years at a maximum value of $10 million each year. This award was first mentioned by L-1 Identity Solutions in L-1's fourth quarter and full year 2007 financial results press release issued on February 13, 2008.

The BPA is a consolidation of several support services contracts that provide program management and engineering support to the Program Management Office, Defence Travel System. The Defence Travel System provides a seamless, paperless, travel system for temporary duty travel (business travel) for military and civilian DoD employees. The mission of the system is to reduce costs, support a wide variety of travel needs, and provide superior customer service to DoD travelers.

Deputy Secretary of Defence, Gordon England directed the establishment of the BTA in October 2005 to transform DoD business operations, coupling optimal support to active servicemen with accountability to the American taxpayer by systematically improving the DoD's business processes, systems and investment governance. The BTA announced its organisational structure in February 2006.

As part of the BPA, ACI will provide systems engineers, financial analysts, program analysts, and subject matter experts to support the Program Management Office in systems engineering, strategic planning, business process reengineering, budgeting, software testing, configuration management, communications support, information assurance and other analytical functions. This is the largest contract award to date for ACI.

"ACI's credentials as an information technology solution provider with the expertise and scale to lead a major important program within the DoD is firmly set with ACI as the lead on this important project from the BTA," said Robert LaPenta, Chairman, President and CEO of L-1 Identity Solutions. "This vote of confidence is a testimony to the strength and depth of the ACI team and we are confident that we will provide the capabilities necessary to help deliver added efficiencies for the Department of Defence as it continues to improve its paperless travel system."

ACI is a provider of Information Technology (IT) Solutions with a primary focus of providing IT support to the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense. ACI's core technology capabilities include infrastructure engineering, systems engineering and integration, software development, and information assurance.
