Conflict Management award goes to hospital professional.

ConflictPro : 03 October, 2007  (Company News)
Establishing measures for the prevention of violence and abuse by members of the public in the healthcare service leads to conflict management award for Bill Mottram.
The winner of the Conflict Professional Security Business Award, to recognise an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to reducing conflict at work, has been announced.

Bill Mottram, healthcare security manager at Securitas Security Services was presented with his award by Stefan Hay, Director of Business Development and Communication at Skills for Security, sponsors of the award, at the awards ceremony, held in Canary Wharf, London.

Bill was nominated for the award by Securitas area director, Terry Morgan, for his work at Southmead hospital, Bristol. Since his appointment Bill has put measures in place to deal with violent members of the public in A and E, challenge members of the public caught stealing by the Security Team, handle disorientated patients found lost and wondering on the site and members of the public visiting relatives, who may be distressed. He has also used his own experience to set up a new, basic awareness course in conflict management for all new members of staff which has reduced the number of staff injuries as a result of serious incidents.

The highly commended award went to Mark Hamilton, managing director of the Rocksteady Group. Mark has been at the forefront of introducing higher standards of security and crowd management within the live events industry. He was instrumental in developing training standards for security and stewarding at sports grounds throughout the UK.

Speaking about the success of the awards, general manager of ConflictPro, Mark Jenner said:' We have been staggered by the quality of the entries we received this year. Selecting a worthy winner was not difficult, but deciding which of the shortlisted nominees had made the most significant contribution to reducing workplace violence was a challenge for the panel of judges.'

The Conflict Professional Award scheme was introduced in 2006 to highlight the good work to manage conflict at work that is taking place on a day to day basis and to share best practice throughout the industry and across other sectors.
