Canada joins community to fight immigration fraud

Borderpol welcomes the recent decision from the Canadian Government to join the international information sharing network in an attempt to reduce levels of immigration fraud |

The recent announcement that Canada would work with its international partners in the Five Party Conference to combat immigration fraud by sharing relevant information is a strategy for success says Borderpol's Executive Director Tom Tass.
'International movement of persons is a fact of modern life that calls for international co-operation to prevent immigration fraud and concealment of criminal identities. Only by using modern technologies and proactively sharing relevant information can Governments remain open to legitimate immigration while protecting their borders from persons who should be denied entry' explained Tass.
Borderpol is an international organization of border security experts and member countries whose primary mandate is to assist in the international cooperation that leads to the development of more effective border systems. Borderpol is currently administratively headquartered in Canada and has itself recently launched a 'SafeBorder Network' strategy that is founded on international information sharing process supportive of the Canadian announcement made last week. As such, Borderpol has communicated its support for the Five Party Conference and Canadian initiative and offered to assist in its implementation.
'These international measures require leadership at a national level and we salute Ministers Kenney and Van Loan and the Harper government for their action and determination to protect the integrity of the Canadian immigration system by effectively tackling the fraud which concurrently exists. Borderpol will be pleased to assist in whatever means we can through our SafeBorder initiative and international border community linkages' affirmed Tass.
