Anti-truancy system launches in the UK.

VoiceAttend : 11 June, 2007  (New Product)
Tracking system enables effective fight against growing truancy problem whilst having the spin-off advantage of providing improved safety for children.
VoiceAttend, a unique, affordable and easy to use automatic parent alert system for schools, will be officially launched in front of local schools in Cornwall on Tuesday 22 May, in a bid to help education establishments combat the increasing problem of truancy.

With truancy in the UK at an all time high, and rising, schools are using a lot of valuable time contacting parents when a pupil is not present for registration.

The VoiceAttend system takes over after registration, automatically making the calls and feeding the parental responses back to the staff.

Adrian Auld, CEO Voice Services LTD, says: "There are 29,000 schools in the UK, all struggling to a greater or lesser degree with the problem of unauthorised absences. Truancy is a major problem and is, as we know, linked to crime. But there is also the very real and worrying issue of a child not turning up for school for other reasons. Ringing round parents to let them know when a pupil has not shown up for school or college is a necessary but time consuming part of the school day for a valuable member of staff. In large organisations, up to 200 calls a day can be made - this is clearly not a good use of staff time. VoiceAttend can almost eliminate this problem by automatically taking over that task, as well as taking over many other school-to-parent communications. And, importantly, unlike other similar systems on the market, it is not a bureau service. This means that the school is not relying on a third party to take the data and make the calls every day and then charge the school back - often much more than they have anticipated - for the calls. Our system is standalone, meaning that it - and therefore their call costs - is completely controlled by the school."

VoiceAttend can not only help with truancy, it can assist in tackling multiple social and communication issues within schools. The system has many additional functions, such as an anti-bullying line that allows pupils to report incidences completely anonymously by disguising their voice, and a function where messages can be sent to groups of parents informing them about school closures, detentions or school bus delays with the touch of a button.

VoiceAttend has been trialled in London schools throughout the past year, including the Crossways Academy in Brockley. Crossways is state of the art, progressive academy that is determined to provide their students with the very best education and start in life. They take registration at the beginning of each lesson and use VoiceAttend to alert parents or guardians of unauthorised absences. Principal, Anthony Bravo considers attendance critical to pupil's development and the Academy's aim of being one of the top 10 sixth forms in the country.
