Patches addressing OS, Office and Explorer vulnerabilities critical for installation to prevent common infections from malicious code. |
|
Microsoft has released five critical patches and three patches rated as important, this April Patch Tuesday.
Alan Bentley, Regional VP of Lumension EMEA (formerly PatchLink) comments:
'IT administrators need to pay close attention to today's handful of critical patches. With the patches addressing vulnerabilities across Microsoft Windows, Office and Internet Explorer, organisations must ensure they take a close look at all applications.
"The Internet Explorer vulnerability (MS08-023) is concerning, as users simply have to click onto a specially crafted Web page to expose themselves to infection. Worryingly for users, the vulnerability holds the common trait that once exploited a hacker can take remote control of the infected PC. Furthermore, this vulnerability includes a kill bit for the Yahoo! Music Jukebox product. The good news is that users without full administration rights will be less impacted.
"Organisations should adhere to best practices and prioritise their assets and the risks associated to them. For example, the vulnerability addressed by MS08-020 for Windows DNS Clients should be addressed quickly by IT administrators that are affected by it. Essentially, it allows internet traffic from legitimate locations to be spoofed or redirected.
