New Technology Assists Fight Against Metal Theft

14 March, 2011
Loss of valuable metals continues to rise worldwide as demand increases and opportunities for theft prove too much of a temptation prompting a UK company to take action

The escalating problem of metal theft was covered in a ProSecurityZone blog as far back as February in 2008 when I commented on a US company that was deploying nano-technology for permanently marking metal and enabling it to remain identifiable and traceable to its source even after melting and reforming into new components.

Last week, Redweb introduced marking technology of a different kind. One way to catch metal thieves is to mark the metal and another way is to mark the thief. This is the Redweb approach is to use Advanced Molecular Tagging Technology (AMTT) to mark the metal and this is transferred to anyone who subsequently handles it, enabling the police to associate the suspect with the metal.
