Growth In Personal Laptop Use In the Workplace Brings Corporate Security Problems

While corporate IT security professionals are trying to lock their systems down against an ever-increasing variety of attack methods, business managers are now offering cash payments for employees to buy their own portable computers to use for both work and play, bringing further grief for overstretched IT administrators

An interesting article from Check Point looks at the latest trend for businesses to provide financial assistance to employees for them to buy laptop computers to use at work and at home instead of having additional depreciating assets to control and account for. This worked fine a decade ago for company cars but the same idea doesn't wash for business computing assets. Check Point explains why this can cause a number of IT security issues in the workplace. One of the issues is that of social networking and the new wave of attacks being deployed through sites such as Facebook and more recently Twitter.
