Blackberry Smart Phone Security Apps Arrive On Market

With Blackberry and other smart phone devices are increasingly being used commercially, security functions come into focus with two-factor authentication and mobile video surveillance management but are all users aware of smart phone security risks?

Adding to the in-built security features available on Blackberry smartphones, both Accumulate and Gemalto have added their own apps to the popular handheld device. Accumulate is focusing on the security of mobile payments amking use of the phone's authentication as well as a one time password generator for two factor authentication. Gemalto approaches Blackberry security from the point of view of access to corporate resources for remote workers with two-factor authentication based on network access control requirements as well as the company's one-time password app for the handheld device. Another innovative application for Blackberry and Apple handhelds has been released by VMS vendor Genetec enabling surveillance operators, control centre personnel, key holders and other affected personnel to access video management system information remotely from their mobile phone. The other side of the security coin for Blackberry users is laid out plainly by AVG in a survey conducted by them into awareness levels of corporate users of smart mobiles into security issues associated with their use with barely a third of surveyed users in the US having considered downloading protection software for their device.
