ACPO Revises CCTV Usage Figure Down From Previous Estimates

24 March, 2011
UK Police bust the myth on the number of cameras in use in the UK bringing the estimate considerably down from the previously quoted 4.2 million

The UK has often been quoted as being the most lavish country in its deployment of CCTV cameras with corresponding criticism being directed at the Government from the UK public. Enquiries and studies into the setting up of a watchdog on how CCTV is used focussed the debate further. The ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) has completed a study with more realistic assumptions that brings the estimated usage down by more than half from the 4.2 million cameras that is often quoted in the press.

Camera supplier Siemens Building Systems has its own view on the report and contributes a comment on the need not only to know the quantity of cameras in use but also how smartly they're being used. Read the Siemens comment
