Young LSO musicians protected by Bloxx

Bloxx : 28 July, 2008  (Application Story)
Innovative TVT-100 web filtering technology by Bloxx in use by the London Symphony Orchestra to provide safer surfing for its younger musicians
Bloxx, the enterprise web filtering specialist, has announced that the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) has selected Bloxx web filtering to protect younger musicians in LSO Discovery as they surf the net. As a registered charity, LSO has deployed Bloxx web filtering as a cost effective, yet robust solution to protect its users online and provide additional protection for their network.

The established and world-renowned LSO was formed in 1904. Touring the globe, the international orchestra is always inventive and dynamic, leading the way in orchestral development and initiative. Recent recordings have brought the Orchestra to a global audience of millions, having been featured in films such as Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

LSO Discovery - the LSO's education and community programme - is constantly searching for new talent and offers promising musicians the opportunity to work with established artists, composers and musicians to broaden their skills at the orchestra's St Luke's Education Centre.

"We work with young people at LSO St. Luke's and need to provide similar protection to that of a school environment, especially whilst they surf the web," comments London Symphony Orchestra Head of Technology, Jeremy Garside. "In hand with this, the rise of web based network threats pushed us to add web filtering to our existing desktop and server virus checks and email filtering."

LSO has selected a Bloxx TVT-100 appliance to ensure users in the education centre are safe whilst surfing and to provide enhanced protection for its network from web borne threats. Developed by engineers at Bloxx Headquarters in the UK, Tru-View Technology automatically identifies and classifies websites, eliminating the inherent weaknesses in URL database and keyword scanning-based web filters.

"Technology plays a large role today in the creation, recording and development of music and LSO relies on technology to further enhance the skills of new musicians and composers breaking into the classical music scene," comments Bloxx Sales and Marketing Director, Paul Irvine. "LSO has noted its duty of care in protecting users and by implementing Bloxx web filtering will be kept in tune with sites that might be offensive or indeed cause damage to its IT network."
