Xacta IA Manager gains GRC enhancements

Telos : 06 August, 2009  (New Product)
Extension to continuous risk management capabilities features in new release of Xacta IA Manager from Telos Corporation
Telos will release enhancements to Xacta IA Manager, the federal government's premier solution for IT governance, Risk Management and compliance (IT GRC) this week. These enhancements provide a continuous Risk Management framework that automates and enforces IT security processes across the enterprise. Key new features include the improved Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) scanner in a separate product, security controls inheritance between applications, systems and networks, and a privacy impact assessment capability.

In addition to the new capabilities, the products of Xacta IA Manager may now be purchased separately, as opposed to the older upgrade model. Even when purchased separately, the Xacta IA Manager components continue to work together as an integrated solution. The two most common products are Xacta IA Manager: Assessment Engine, and Xacta IA Manager: Continuous Assessment. The process enforcement capabilities are also still available within the Xacta IA Manager framework.

"The new product packaging offers our customers the ability to purchase each product separately, rather than as upgrades to a core product," said David Wilson, vice president of product management for Xacta IA Manager at Telos. "This offers tremendous flexibility and value to the customer, allowing them to customize a solution that fits their needs while not paying for features they don't need. Specifically, it allows customers to purchase the Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP)-validated 'FDCC Scanner' features within Xacta IA Manager: Continuous Assessment without purchasing the security authorization process (C&A) automation features within Xacta IA Manager: Assessment Engine."

The functionalities delivered with the new version include:

1 Xacta Assessment Engine:

* Controls inheritance -- Provides the ability to automatically link controls between projects in order to reduce the complexity and cost of security administration and testing

* Privacy impact assessments (PIA) -- Automates PIAs in keeping with federal guidelines to demonstrate that privacy protections have been incorporated

* Reference relationships -- Establishes reference-extension relationships between projects to ensure accurate configuration notifications and reporting for "type-accredited" systems

2 Xacta Continuous Assessment:

* FDCC scanner -- Serves as a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) SCAP-validated FDCC scanner to automate the validation and compliance of systems against FDCC standards and to support the use of SCAP content to determine compliance with FDCC and other XCCDF checklists.

* Vulnerability correlation -- Correlates vulnerability information from disparate scan sources so information assurance personnel can make more informed decisions and plan the appropriate next steps.

* Remediation planning -- Facilitates the development of remediation plans for individual issues on each asset.

The new enhancements will further advance the solution's continuous assessment capabilities. Xacta IA Manager was the first IT GRC solution to include continuous assessment and process enforcement within its feature set. Telos introduced its patented continuous assessment functionality to Xacta IA Manager in November 2002, and has offered security process automation since April 2004.
