Wi-Fi identity verification technology for retail use

Intellicheck Mobilisa : 20 April, 2009  (New Product)
Intellicheck Mobilisa has made it's federal grade ID checking technology available for improving store card application processes for retail outlets and shoppers
What do military base ID checkpoints have to do with shoppers getting a Target credit card? Or law enforcement officers scanning "Most Wanted" lists with simplifying hotel check-in? The answer: ID and Wi-Fi solutions.

"It might be surprising to learn that the identity confirmation challenges facing the nation's federal secure facilities, and the goal of retailers to make shopping experiences better, can both be addressed using similar means," says Dr Nelson Ludlow, CEO of Intellicheck Mobilisa, a technology company that is developing and marketing wireless and identity systems for various government, military, and commercial markets. "Government-issue ID cards coupled with sophisticated wireless readers have a myriad of beneficial applications."

The company's Defense ID System are handheld mobile devices that quickly scan various forms of identification, including driver's licenses, passports, and military ID cards. These lightweight portable devices instantly scour over 140 military and law databases, thus preventing unauthorized access by instantly checking for fake IDs and cards reported as lost, stolen, or terminated.

In March 2009, the system received an Army-wide Authority to Operate (ATO), certification that allows Army installations nationwide to procure the system, and is currently at use at over seventy military and federal secure facilities nationwide including West Point. "The Defense ID System has scanned millions of IDs, and been responsible for the identification of over ten thousand bad guys," Dr Ludlow explains.

On the retail side, analogous technology enhances shopping experiences. "Every shopper has had the experience of approaching the checkout counter and being offered a store-based credit card," says Dr Ludlow. "Only, there are enormous identification theft risks involved with putting one's vital personal information down on paper, or worse, saying your credit card or social security number aloud in public."

ID-Check is a patented technology that instantly reads, analyzes, and verifies encoded data in magnetic stripes and barcodes on Canadian and US government-issued IDs, such as drivers licenses, to determine if the content and format are valid. Installed at point-of-sale locations, the system can be used for everything from instant credit card application approvals to the issuance of promotional incentive cards to age verification for the sale of alcohol. "ID and Wi-Fi solutions," says Dr Ludlow, "help shore up national security while ramping up retail."
