Voice firewall for eliminating toll fraud

Retell : 14 August, 2009  (New Product)
PABX hacking is a growing trend that can be fought using voice firewall software from Retell
Hacking into the voice mail's of mobile phones is a hot topic at the moment but not new to owners of office phone systems or PABX's. PABX hacking has become increasingly widespread and is costing businesses thousands of pounds in unexpected phone bills. Retell the Sunbury on Thames call recording manufacturer has developed a Voice Firewall which can stop calls to numbers pre-programmed by the owner.

PABX 'phreaking' as it is sometimes known is carried out by fraudsters who dial in to a phone system and guess a voice mail or system password, often left at factory settings, thereby enabling them to make calls without the owner's knowledge. Even if a PABX is password-protected hackers could attack the system via the back door engineering or developer password.

Retell began to hear regular horror stories about PABX toll fraud six months ago. A spokesman for Retell said, 'Our call recording system Sense Call Analyser already included integrated call management which reports unwanted phone activity, costs and call volumes. As the Sense call recording system was entering a new phase of development that included 'Active' features like adding announcements to calls we realised that a Firewall that actually stops fraudulent activity would further enhance Sense and offer business' an irresistible return on investment'.

Sense Voice Firewall monitors dialled calls and electronically disconnects calls to unauthorised numbers that are pre set by the owner. The Firewall can be programmed to match business hours, prevent calls to unauthorised numbers both in and out of working hours and allow calls to special numbers only, for example the emergency services. It is easily installed between the network entry point and any PABX as part of a Retell Sense Recording System or as a standalone unit.

Retell started to manufacture telephone recording equipment in 1986 and is now one of only a handful of companies in the world that manufacture call recording circuit cards.
Through partner resellers Retell offers a range of products that are designed to improve business performance including call recording for single or multiple lines, call logging, business answering machines, on hold advertising and announcements and fax and voice servers.
