Voice Biometrics and ID Fraud Prevention

Voice Commerce provides comment on the growth in identity theft and the way in which biometric voice authentication can be used to prevent it
CIFAS has launched a report highlighting the continued growth of identity theft in conjunction with the UK's National Identity Fraud Prevention Week.

Nick Ogden, CEO and Founder of Voice Commerce comments: "Clamping down on identity fraud through better security is becoming increasingly important, especially as consumers start to embrace new payment channels for making transactions including using their mobile phone. Latest figures from CIFAS 2010 reveal that along with plastic cards, mobile phone accounts are the product of choice for fraudsters, highlighting that it is the newest and weakest channels that are generally the most inviting.

"To keep up with today's fraudsters it is essential that the security landscape continues its evolution. With 70% of the global population owning a mobile phone, securing the m-commerce marketplace is going to be crucial in the coming months. With this in mind, biometric technology is now coming to the fore as one of the most up to date and advanced methods of identity verification and is proving an attractive option in a bid to fight imposters.

"By removing the need for additional hardware or passwords and being able to take make payments remotely, voice biometric authentication over mobile phone is poised to transform fraud prevention and change it from an annoying and time consuming obstacle, to a simple and natural part of the transaction process."
