Virtual network with in-built DR for Berkeley Partnership

Atlanta Technology : 14 January, 2009  (Application Story)
Atlanta Technology chosen by the Berkeley Partnership for transforming their network into a virtualised domain with full disaster recovery capabilities
Atlanta Technology, hosted technology and Virtualisation specialists, has been selected by management consultants The Berkeley Partnership to manage the transition to a complete virtualised network, which will reduce capital expenditure on IT, improve administration and up-time, in addition to future-proofing its storage and disaster recovery capabilities.

The implementation of the network is currently being finalised and will see the infrastructure move to a remote datacentre where the servers will be run on virtualised environment. Two physical servers will remain onsite for replication purposes.

Also incorporated into the overhaul is the implementation of a Storage Area Network and a remote FalconStor CDP disaster recovery solution. Atlanta Technology is also working with a number of specialist partners to provide backup and network solutions, including Exponential-e and Urban WiMax.

Carl Sheldrick, IT Manager at The Berkeley Partnership confirms: "Although Virtualisation was out of reach for small businesses several years ago, it is now an extremely viable option. It provides us with capacity to manage growth and scale as required, whilst also ensuring we have the very best technology with less administration. We don't have bottomless budgets for our IT capabilities, therefore the fact we don't have to budget for expensive hardware, or have the ongoing cost of internal maintenance is perfect. Also, the high degree of redundancy we have in the system guarantees a certain level of uptime, which is extremely reassuring."

Continues Carl: "With 50 staff members, many of which are operating remotely, the Atlanta virtualised network has been designed to support remote workers and ensure they can access, backup and store any data, at any time. In addition, we are moving offices this year, so the virtualised infrastructure will ensure we not only have maximum uptime during this period but means less IT space is required in the new premises, which is an added bonus towards our green credentials."

Adds Simon Kelson, managing director, Atlanta Technology; "We have worked closely with Berkeley to understand their specific needs, both now and over the next five years. This has enabled us to design the right virtualised network for them. Now, they have plenty of capacity for growth, the flexibility to enable them to easily move premises when needed, in addition to having plans in place to minimise any potential downtime through a rugged Disaster Recovery solution that will ensure they are back up and running in a matter of minutes, rather than hours or even days."
