Videotec housings and Ulisse positioning units protect Croatian pipeline.

Videotec : 18 April, 2007  (Application Story)
Oil pipeline protection provided by IP camera network equipped with Videotec camera housings and Ulisse positioning units capable of withstanding hostile environmental conditions.
Janaf, headquartered in Zagreb, Croatia, is managing an oil pipeline system, as a modern, efficient and cost-efficient crude oil transportation system for both local and foreign users. Janaf has adopted, thanks to the integrator Tehnozavod Marusic, a project for videomonitoring a pipeline stretching from the Serbian border to the Adriatic sea.

Tehnozavod has designed and implemented an IP based system, teaming up with Videotec. The first tranch of 5 was realised on the Adriatic sea and is composed of 100 fixed IP cameras installed into Videotec HOV camera housings, of Videotec IR300 infrared illuminators and of 14 Videotec Ulisse positioning units, with built-in Sony block camera, remotely controlled by video servers.

Some of the problems encountered by Tehnozavod when designing the system were the environmental heat during summer time and the famous local wind called the Bora, which was once measured at over 200 kilometres per hour.

These problems were solved with Videotec HOV housings: thanks to their efficient cooling system which reduces the internal enclosure temperature.

The Ulisse positioning unit can withstand 200km/h winds statically and 160km/h wind conditions operationally so the Bora was not a problem.

Igor Benko, Project Manager at Tehnozavod, confirmed: "This is definitely a challenging project for us: the total system will comprise over 500 IP controlled fixed cameras and an additional 100 PTZ cameras, stretching between the two borders of our country. This is probably the largest Croatian installation of its kind."
