Video analytics secure Iberia Airlines facility

Agent Vi : 09 July, 2008  (Application Story)
Iberia Airlines switch from analogue surveillance to IP video security system with highly accurate video motion detection software from Agent Vi for additional protection
As the largest air transport group in Spain, Iberia Airlines was interested in improving safety in aircraft-only areas, heightening security in the wake of a 2006 car bombing, and preventing theft in its 200,000 square meter facilities. Unhappy with its existing closed circuit television (CCTV) security system, the organisation turned to Video Analytics software developer Agent Vi when upgrading its security system.

"In light of recent highly publicised security breaches and attacks at a number of airports, safety remains a primary concern at our operation," said Diana Simon, security manager, Iberia Airlines. "Moving to an all IP-based solution required that we look for a highly-scalable Video Analytics offering that would allow us to deploy hundreds of cameras while eliminating the need for additional server hardware and keeping operational costs down. Agent Vi's software allowed us to do that, and the analytics have performed extremely well despite the challenging outdoor environment near a busy airport."

Iberia's facilities, near Madrid-Barajas International Airport, include seven hangars and a computer operations centre which controls check-in, boarding and reservations processes. Despite passing aircraft and trucks, and even shadows from nearby trees, Agent Vi has given Iberia an easy way to accurately detect objects moving inside a defined area, entering or exiting a closed area, and crossing a virtual line -- tracking both direction and speed, and differentiating among various objects by size and other parameters. Agent Vi-enabled security cameras have become active eyes that automatically report specific behaviours of interest, in real-time and with extreme accuracy.

Agent Vi worked with local integrator, Nordes Prosegur Tecnologia, to install its Video Analytics software on Network Video recorders (NVRs) provided by technology partner On-Net Surveillance Systems (OnSSI).

"As Iberia transitioned from a limited analogue CCTV to a full IP solution, the Video Analytics solution was a critical consideration for the deployment," said Javier Zammaron, manager of Nordes-Prosegur. "Because of Agent Vi's unique architecture, it proved to be the most optimised, cost-effective solution in an all-IP scenario."
