Video analytics helps Bulgarian production control

NetAvis : 08 April, 2009  (Application Story)
Roof tile manufacturer increases productivity and reduces fraud with the use of the iCAT video analytics toolbox from Netavis for using video surveillance technology in production analysis applications
Video analytics helps Bulgarian production control
The Ceramics House Straldja in Bulgaria is making use of the software platform Netavis Observer 3. In addition to the classical video surveillance functions of Netavis Observer 3, the Cermaics House relies on the object tracking functionality of the Video Analytics toolbox iCAT, through which it is possible to analyze the production output reliably and thus avoid fraud.

Ceramics House Straldja is the only producer of ceramic roof tiles in Bulgaria. The company was founded in 1995 with a 100% Bulgarian private capital. The factory is fitted with modern equipment and has a yearly production of 44 million tiles. About 60 employees work in Ceramics House Straldja around the year.

By using the Video Analytics toolbox iCAT, it is possible to generate reliable information about the production output of the Ceramics House and thus enhance the additional value of conventional video surveillance solutions. iCAT is an Observer module for Video Analytics that works with analogue and IP cameras. Furthermore, it provides powerful and easy-to-configure object detection and tracking mechanisms as well as a statistics module with integration to the Observer event management system.

Thanks to the unique Smart Tripwire Technology of Netavis double and incorrect counting of objects can be prevented. An iCAT Smart Tripwire is directional and only counts objects that have been detected in the source area first and then move across. Thus, not only people but also objects can be counted. Therefore, this technology gives the customer a clear picture on the factories performance. In case of the Ceramics House in Straldja, up to 4.000 objects can be counted per hour with this unique technology. The hourly error rate of the iCAT algorithm is as low as only 5 - 6 wrong counts (approx. 1,5 ‰). Consequently, the installed NETAVIS system offers an added value that is far beyond the scope of classical CCTV solutions.

"The flexibility and quality of the Netavis system, when it comes to adapting the iCAT object counting functions to our need in the Ceramics House, deeply impressed me", states Jordan Tenev, sole owner of Ceramics House Straldja.

In the near future the video surveillance system in Straldja will be extended and applied in other locations, as well.
