Vendor alliance for vulnerability management

TippingPoint : 22 April, 2009  (Company News)
Critical Watch joins TippingPoint to integrate the functions of TippingPoint's Intrusion Prevention System with FusionVM for improved vulnerability management
TippingPoint and Critical Watch have announced a strategic collaboration that gives organizations enhanced capabilities for defending against network threats. Specifically, the integrated solution enables companies to quickly identify network vulnerabilities within their unique environment, compare those to current Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) settings, and make adjustments to those settings to ensure protection of the vulnerable hosts. By exchanging information between the two products, organizations are able to easily improve security, achieve compliance with regulatory requirements and reduce total cost of operation.

The integration of the TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and the Critical Watch FusionVM solution extends beyond basic threat-to-vulnerability correlation offering customers a comprehensive process for connecting IPS and vulnerability management functions. The joint solution works by mapping the FusionVM vulnerability library to corresponding filters from TippingPoint's Digital Vaccine (DV) service. For security administrators that are dealing with an ever-evolving threat landscape, this mapping provides a view of which DV filters are turned on, how they map to the current threat and what other security options are available to mitigate the attack.

"This combined solution saves me valuable time by providing a single source for viewing my vulnerability posture in comparison to available IPS coverage and then enabling a process to easily tune filters based on that information," said Scott Engel, director of IT infrastructure for Transplace. "TippingPoint and Critical Watch have brought a truly forward looking solution to the marketplace that greatly simplifies and streamlines the security management challenge."

In addition to improving enterprises' security posture, the integration also allows administrators to automate and demonstrate key processes for compliance. It is becoming increasingly important for companies to automate and document the security controls they have in place. The combination of TippingPoint's leading security protection and the work flow management features of FusionVM provide customers with the audit and tracking capabilities necessary to ease compliance efforts

"Regulatory compliance is a major concern for our customers," said David Laizerovich, president and CEO at Critical Watch. "The integrated offering with TippingPoint, provides our customers with a holistic solution that not only saves time and money by automating threat mitigation, but also documents the entire process ensuring regulatory compliance."

According to Alan Kessler, president of TippingPoint, "We are excited to partner with Critical Watch. The integration of our two technologies helps customers align threat detection with vulnerability management efforts and provides clear, actionable data that allows them move quickly to protect their systems."

TippingPoint and Critical Watch will jointly market this integrated solution at the RSA Conference 2009 on April 20-24, 2009 in San Francisco, California at both the TippingPoint booth (#1432) and Critical Watch booth (#442).
