Valentine Day Spam Set To Be High This Month

Symantec : 07 February, 2011  (Technical Article)
Symantec is warning e-mail users about the annual influx of Valentine's Day spam with redirects to malicious websites
Spammers are  gearing up for  Valentine’s Day with several offers including product spam, gift cards, personalised cards, and financial spam. Symantec has been observing Valentine’s Day-related spam since early January, in particular a spike in product spam related to this special event.

Below are Valentine’s day related spam sample subjects:

* Personalized gifts for your Valentine

* The best Valentines gifts

* Super great designer watches

Spammers promoting fake product offers at discounted price and the URL featured in the messages redirect users to a spam webpage, which asks for personal information.

Symantec advises users to be cautious when handling unsolicited or unexpected emails. A recommended best practice is to regularly  update your antispam signatures to prevent personal information from being compromised.
